The viral claim is false that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was publicly slapped in an event in 1962 after he had said in a speech that “Aryas were refugees in India”. We found that the picture was taken in 1962 when a security man grabbed Nehru to keep him from plunging into a riotous crowd at a meeting of the Congress Party in Patna.
A video has surfaced on social media showing a rap song being performed on a stage claiming that this song in support of the farmers’ protests was played after the Miss India contest broadcast on MTV show.
A Facebook user shared this video with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated to, "Once again after the Miss India Contest, the issue of Farmers' protest resonated on MTV. The judges have a standing ovation ....If the matter comes out, it will go far away."
Several other Facebook users are sharing this image with the same caption in Hindi.
This video is being shared in the backdrop of the recent announcement of Miss India winners on February 10.
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The video is old and not related to the ongoing farmers' protest. This video shows Kolkata-based rap singer Santhanam Srinivasan Iyer, singing a rap song about the plight of Indian farmers, during the MTV Hustle reality show in October 2019.
With the help of reverse image search, we found this image uploaded on a YouTube channel on November 8, 2019.
Taking a hint from this and performing a relevant keyword search, we also this video shared on Facebook on October 15, 2019.
'Times of India’ also published an article on this performance at MTV Hustle reality show. Kolkata-based rap singer Santhanam Srinivasan Iyer, who is famously called EPR, reportedly performed a rap song about the plight of Indian farmers at the ‘MTV Hustle’ reality show finals in 2019. Srinivasan Iyer shared the videos of him singing the same rap song on his social media handles.
In conclusion, a two-year-old video from ‘MTV Hustle reality show falsely linked to the ongoing farmers’ protests.
